Bologna Christmas Markets 2026 — idealista/information

Italy Highlights

Bologna’s Christmas markets bring seasonal stalls to the city’s porticoes, squares and central streets between November 2026 and early January 2027.

The headline event in Bologna is the centuries-old Antica Fiera di Santa Lucia, while smaller markets near the station, Piazza Maggiore and the cathedral cover gifts, food, antiques and French specialities.

Antica Fiera di Santa Lucia

 6 November–27 December 2026

The Antica Fiera di Santa Lucia takes place under the monumental portico of Santa Maria dei Servi on Strada Maggiore, part of Bologna’s UNESCO-listed porticoes. Its history reaches back to the late 16th century and is linked to a relic of Saint Lucy donated to the Bologna diocese by Pope Gregory XIII.

Stalls focus on nativity figures, Christmas decorations, candles, small handmade items and traditional sweets including torrone, croccante and mistocchine.

Natale a Porta Galliera

19 November 2026–6 January 2027

Natale a Porta Galliera is held in Piazza XX Settembre, close to Bologna Centrale railway station. Its stalls are centred on clothing, accessories and gift ideas, giving it a more shopping-led feel than the Santa Lucia fair.

The location makes it convenient for people arriving or departing by train.

Fiera di Natale di via Altabella

20 November 2026–6 January 2027

The Fiera di Natale di via Altabella sits next to Cattedrale di San Pietro, a short walk from Piazza Maggiore and Via Indipendenza.

Stalls sell decorations, sweets, costume jewellery, gift items and handmade products, including goods from outside Italy. Its central setting makes it easy to combine with time around the Quadrilatero, the Two Towers and Mercato di Mezzo.

French Christmas Village

5–8 December 2026

The French Christmas Village runs during the Immaculate Conception long weekend in Piazza Minghetti and Piazza del Francia. Its gazebos focus on French food and drink, including croissants, baguettes, biscuits, cheese, spices, wine, oysters and champagne.

Handmade goods and lavender products are also part of the market, giving it a different focus from Bologna’s traditional Christmas fairs.

Antiques Fair at Voltone del Podestà

12–24 December 2026

The Fiera dell’Antiquariato is set beneath the Voltone del Podestà in Piazza Maggiore. It brings together antiques, modern collectables, paintings, curios, trinkets and small collectors’ items.

The fair provides an alternative to conventional festive decorations and gift stalls in the heart of the historic centre.

Practical details for visiting Bologna’s Christmas markets

Bologna Centrale is close to the historic centre, with Porta Galliera near the station and the other markets accessible on foot towards Via Indipendenza, Piazza Maggiore and Strada Maggiore.

Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport is connected with Bologna Centrale by the Marconi Express, which takes around seven and a half minutes.

Anyone travelling by car should take care around the central ZTL and consider parking outside the most central streets before continuing on foot or using public transport.
